about

Since 2005, photography has connected me with my deepest visual desires and needs. Drawn to people, my style focuses on identities both outwardly and psychologically, all of which are reflections of my own emotional extremities. Film noir influenced, surrealistic narratives and Cindy Sherman methodology make my work even more personal.

“Ms. Clifford, an art photographer, recalled that as far back as high school she was keen to trade the wan aesthetic that defined her crowd for something with a bit more … oomph.” -The New York Times

"I was really happy to work with one of my close friends and talented photographer, Jolie Clifford. We have a really similar process and aesthetic, and I am so comfortable with her behind the camera, I feel like we make great art together, and I’m not self- conscious." -Laura Rebel Angel [interview]

"I found this website of Jolie Clifford's work gripping and disturbing at the same time. It's certainly very thought provoking, and will no doubt have a 'Marmite' effect on viewers." -Chris Dodkin

"Your photos manage to be provocative without being obscene. They're dark and dirty, but with a painted cat's eye on wholesome Americana." -Tumblr Anon
